I begin by playing with color and then texture. I work intuitively, with only a general idea of where I might be going. I revise each piece many times, as an author revises an unfolding story. My goal is always to bring beauty and joy into your life. Often bold, my jewelry is created to enhance confidence and make you feel wonderful. The lovely part of this process is that in doing this work, the beauty, joy and confidence infuses my life as well.
My creative process often starts with a focal bead or a lovely strand of gemstones. I will place these on the worktable in my studio. Then I start by opening one the many drawers where my beads are sorted by color and type. I might pull out a drawer of turquoise beads and start arranging them along side the focal bead. I'll think about the shades of turquoise and the textures, sizes and shapes of the beads. Perhaps I'll decide that a little purple would liven things up, so I'll select some beads from that drawer. I would have to decide if pearls, glass or amethyst would work best with the turquoise and focal beads I have selected. I'll try out different patterns and combinations. I always experience a little rush of happiness when something inside me knows that each bead has found its proper place in the overall design. It is this process of composition that I enjoy the most. I also take the technical work very seriously, because the best design is worthless if not executed with the utmost attention to quality craftmanship. Exceptional design and meticulous craftmanship are the components that fulfill my goal of bringing beauty and joy into your life. |
